The founder and CEO of ProLogium Vincent Yang participated in the Choose France Summit, in Versailles this Monday, on the invitation of the French President Emmanuel Macron for two consecutive years. The total 5.2-billioneuro investment for the construction of a 48 GWh next generation solid-state battery Gigafactory announced last Friday by ProLogium is one of the most important international investments announced at the 2023 Choose France summit.
The Choose France Summit is the flagship event for France’s economic attractiveness, bringing together leaders from the largest multinational corporations at the Château de Versailles. With the theme of “reindustrialization” in the field of low-carbon energy and electric vehicles, it further underlines the French government’s determination to build a green industry and achieve industrial transformation. Vincent Yang, Founder and CEO of ProLogium, alongside foreign leaders such as Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and Natarajan Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons joined the roundtable discussion.
Last Friday, ProLogium Technology announced in Dunkirk, France that it would build its first overseas next generation solid-state battery Gigafactory in Dunkirk. On that day, French President Emmanuel Macron and five Ministers from the Ministry of the Economy, Finance and Recovery and Ministry of the Interior attended the ceremony in person with the President delivering a speech. Three days later, ProLogium was invited to the Choose France Summit for the second time, showcasing the French government’s steadfast and continuous support for ProLogium’s next generation solid-state battery Gigafactory project.
“It’s a great honor to be here, at the Choose France Summit, for the second time, standing with the greatest industry leaders in the world. I would like to thank once again Mr. President Macron, for the strong backing to ProLogium’s localization project in Dunkirk. I’m glad that we have chosen France, as we will be able to take advantage of the high-quality talent pool in France, stable decarbonized electricity, a thriving battery ecosystem in Northern France, and be close to our European OEM customers and markets. We’re excited to start working with the local community to build up a robust advanced battery value chain here,” commented Vincent Yang, Founder and CEO of ProLogium.
Local manufacturing and local supply are poised to fulfill European customers’ demand
After comprehensive consideration of the support provided by local governments in terms of funds, talents, taxation, as well as the maturity of key material supply chains, the city of Dunkirk was selected for ProLogium’s first overseas industrial site. This region also allows ProLogium to benefit from a supply of stable and lowcarbon electricity at a competitive price, first and foremost the EDF power plant which generates decarbonized electricity. Moreover, the port of Dunkirk has superb geographic assets as it is close to Northern European automotive manufacturing plants and the international shipping network. These features make Dunkirk an ideal location to realize ProLogium’s vision of implementing local supply and local manufacturing for European OEM customers.
Starting from Taiwan, ProLogium has invested NTD 4.2 billion to build the world’s first 1-2GWh next generation solid-state lithium ceramic battery gigafactory in Taoyuan Science Park, Taiwan and is expected to start production in the second half of 2023. Going forward, ProLogium will continue its internationalization efforts to meet the demands of international customers for local production with France as the first stop.
